ba7b9e6d14 of: Add OF_DMA_DEFAULT_COHERENT & select it on powerpc
commit dabf6b36b83a18d57e3d4b9d50544ed040d86255 upstream.

There's an OF helper called of_dma_is_coherent(), which checks if a
device has a "dma-coherent" property to see if the device is coherent
for DMA.

But on some platforms devices are coherent by default, and on some
platforms it's not possible to update existing device trees to add the
"dma-coherent" property.

So add a Kconfig symbol to allow arch code to tell
of_dma_is_coherent() that devices are coherent by default, regardless
of the presence of the property.

Select that symbol on powerpc when NOT_COHERENT_CACHE is not set, ie.
when the system has a coherent cache.

Fixes: 92ea637ede ("of: introduce of_dma_is_coherent() helper")

570082bdbc of: mdio: Fix a signedness bug in of_phy_get_and_connect()
[ Upstream commit d7eb651212fdbafa82d485d8e76095ac3b14c193 ]

The "iface" variable is an enum and in this context GCC treats it as
an unsigned int so the error handling is never triggered.

95cd1aacf9 of: add helper to lookup compatible child node
[ Upstream commit 36156f9241cb0f9e37d998052873ca7501ad4b36 ]

Add of_get_compatible_child() helper that can be used to lookup
compatible child nodes.

Several drivers currently use of_find_compatible_node() to lookup child
nodes while failing to notice that the of_find_ functions search the
entire tree depth-first (from a given start node) and therefore can
match unrelated nodes. The fact that these functions also drop a
reference to the node they start searching from (e.g. the parent node)
is typically also overlooked, something which can lead to use-after-free
bugs.

af86cb901c of, numa: Validate some distance map rules
commit 89c38422e072bb453e3045b8f1b962a344c3edea upstream.

Currently the NUMA distance map parsing does not validate the distance
table for the distance-matrix rules 1-2 in [1].

However the arch NUMA code may enforce some of these rules, but not all.
Such is the case for the arm64 port, which does not enforce the rule that
the distance between separates nodes cannot equal LOCAL_DISTANCE.

The patch adds the following rules validation:
- distance of node to self equals LOCAL_DISTANCE
- distance of separate nodes > LOCAL_DISTANCE

This change avoids a yet-unresolved crash reported in [2].

A note on dealing with symmetrical distances between nodes:

Validating symmetrical distances between nodes is difficult. If it were
mandated in the bindings that every distance must be recorded in the
table, then it would be easy. However, it isn't.

In addition to this, it is also possible to record [b, a] distance only
(and not [a, b]). So, when processing the table for [b, a], we cannot
assert that current distance of [a, b] != [b, a] as invalid, as [a, b]
distance may not be present in the table and current distance would be
default at REMOTE_DISTANCE.

As such, we maintain the policy that we overwrite distance [a, b] = [b, a]
for b > a. This policy is different to kernel ACPI SLIT validation, which
allows non-symmetrical distances (ACPI spec SLIT rules allow it). However,
the distance debug message is dropped as it may be misleading (for a distance
which is later overwritten).

Some final notes on semantics:

- It is implied that it is the responsibility of the arch NUMA code to
reset the NUMA distance map for an error in distance map parsing.

- It is the responsibility of the FW NUMA topology parsing (whether OF or
ACPI) to enforce NUMA distance rules, and not arch NUMA code.

a57f5010e8 of: unittest: Disable interrupt node tests for old world MAC systems
commit 8894891446c9380709451b99ab45c5c53adfd2fc upstream.

On systems with OF_IMAP_OLDWORLD_MAC set in of_irq_workarounds, the
devicetree interrupt parsing code is different, causing unit tests of
devicetree interrupt nodes to fail. Due to a bug in unittest code, which
tries to dereference an uninitialized pointer, this results in a crash.

f92ec84c49 of: unittest: for strings, account for trailing \0 in property length field
commit 3b9cf7905fe3ab35ab437b5072c883e609d3498d upstream.

For strings, account for trailing \0 in property length field:

This is consistent with how dtc builds string properties.

Function __of_prop_dup() would misbehave on such properties as it duplicates
properties based on the property length field creating new string values
without trailing \0s.

a72ac679ca earlycon: Use a pointer table to fix __earlycon_table stride
commit dd709e72cb934eefd44de8d9969097173fbf45dc upstream.

Commit 99492c39f3 ("earlycon: Fix __earlycon_table stride") tried to fix
__earlycon_table stride by forcing the earlycon_id struct alignment to 32
and asking the linker to 32-byte align the __earlycon_table symbol. This
fix was based on commit 07fca0e57f ("tracing: Properly align linker
defined symbols") which tried a similar fix for the tracing subsystem.

However, this fix doesn't quite work because there is no guarantee that
gcc will place structures packed into an array format. In fact, gcc 4.9
chooses to 64-byte align these structs by inserting additional padding
between the entries because it has no clue that they are supposed to be in
an array. If we are unlucky, the linker will assign symbol
"__earlycon_table" to a 32-byte aligned address which does not correspond
to the 64-byte aligned contents of section "__earlycon_table".

To address this same problem, the fix to the tracing system was
subsequently re-implemented using a more robust table of pointers approach
by commits:
3d56e331b6 ("tracing: Replace syscall_meta_data struct array with pointer array")
6549864629 ("tracepoints: Fix section alignment using pointer array")
e4a9ea5ee7 ("tracing: Replace trace_event struct array with pointer array")

Let's use this same "array of pointers to structs" approach for
EARLYCON_TABLE.

faf6fd7539 OF: Prevent unaligned access in of_alias_scan()
commit de96ec2a77c6d06a423c2c495bb4a2f4299f3d9e upstream.

When allocating a struct alias_prop, of_alias_scan() only requested that
it be aligned on a 4 byte boundary. The struct contains pointers which
leads to us attempting 64 bit writes on 64 bit systems, and if the CPU
doesn't support unaligned memory accesses then this causes problems -
for example on some MIPS64r2 CPUs including the "mips64r2-generic" QEMU
emulated CPU it will trigger an address error exception.

Fix this by requesting alignment for the struct alias_prop allocation
matching that which the compiler expects, using the __alignof__ keyword.

6ba32c648a of: fix of_device_get_modalias returned length when truncating buffers
[ Upstream commit bcf54d5385abaea9c8026aae6f4eeb348671a52d ]

If the length of the modalias is greater than the buffer size, then the
modalias is truncated. However the untruncated length is returned which
will cause an error. Fix this to return the truncated length. If an error
in the case was desired, then then we should just return -ENOMEM.

The reality is no device will ever have 4KB of compatible strings to hit
this case.

a18935b45e of: device: Export of_device_{get_modalias, uvent_modalias} to modules
commit 7a3b7cd332db08546f3cdd984f11773e0d1999e7 upstream.

The ULPI bus can be built as a module, and it will soon be
calling these functions when it supports probing devices from DT.
Export them so they can be used by the ULPI module.

commit 3ec754410cb3e931a6c4920b1a150f21a94a2bf4 upstream.

An empty __dtb_start to __dtb_end section might result in
initial_boot_params being null for arch/mips/ralink. This showed that the
boot process hangs indefinitely in of_scan_flat_dt().

9907c838fc of: fdt: add missing allocation-failure check
commit 49e67dd17649b60b4d54966e18ec9c80198227f0 upstream.

The memory allocator passed to __unflatten_device_tree() (e.g. a wrapped
kzalloc) can fail so add the missing sanity check to avoid dereferencing
a NULL pointer.

80cdf2065b of: fix "/cpus" reference leak in of_numa_parse_cpu_nodes()
commit b8475cbee5ab2eac05f9cd5dbcc94c453d3cbf10 upstream.

The call to of_find_node_by_path("/cpus") returns the cpus device_node
with its reference count incremented. There is no matching of_node_put()
call in of_numa_parse_cpu_nodes() which results in a leaked reference
to the "/cpus" node.

This patch adds an of_node_put() to release the reference.

commit eb3100365791b06242b8bb5c3c2854ba41dabfbc upstream.

../drivers/of/address.c:266:26: warning: incorrect type in assignment (different base types)

9a4a740554 ANDROID: of: Fix build warnings
In commit d6cb004d80 (of: fix CONFIG_CMDLINE_EXTEND),
the types of some variables in early_init_dt_scan_chosen()
were modified, which results in build warnings.

This patch resets the unsigned long to an int, and re-adds
the const to the char*.

e820270abb ANDROID: of: fix CONFIG_CMDLINE_EXTEND
strlcat takes the size of the buffer, not the number of characters
to concatenate. If the size of the device tree command line p is
larger than the CONFIG_CMDLINE string data, then strcat(data, p, l)
will hit a BUG_ON because strlen(data) > l.

Replace the second strlcat with a strncpy plus a manual null
termination.

Also rearrange the code to reduce indent depth to make it more
readable, and replace data with a char *cmdline to avoid extra
casts.

4db7f78711 ANDROID: of: Support CONFIG_CMDLINE_EXTEND config option
The old logic assumes CMDLINE_FROM_BOOTLOADER vs. CMDLINE_FORCE and
ignores CMDLINE_EXTEND. Here's the old logic:

- CONFIG_CMDLINE_FORCE=true
    CONFIG_CMDLINE
- dt bootargs=non-empty:
    dt bootargs
- dt bootargs=empty, @data is non-empty string
    @data is left unchanged
- dt bootargs=empty, @data is empty string
    CONFIG_CMDLINE (or "" if that's not defined)

The new logic is now documented in of_fdt.h and is copied here for
reference:

- CONFIG_CMDLINE_FORCE=true
    CONFIG_CMDLINE
- CONFIG_CMDLINE_EXTEND=true, @data is non-empty string
@data + dt bootargs (even if dt bootargs are empty)
- CONFIG_CMDLINE_EXTEND=true, @data is empty string
CONFIG_CMDLINE + dt bootargs (even if dt bootargs are empty)
- CMDLINE_FROM_BOOTLOADER=true, dt bootargs=non-empty:
    dt bootargs
- CMDLINE_FROM_BOOTLOADER=true, dt bootargs=empty, @data is non-empty string
    @data is left unchanged
- CMDLINE_FROM_BOOTLOADER=true, dt bootargs=empty, @data is empty string
    CONFIG_CMDLINE (or "" if that's not defined)

commit b6cc9474e2dd9f0c19b694b40961d81117f1e918 upstream.

On arm64 NUMA kernels we can pass "numa=off" on the command line to
disable NUMA. A side effect of this is that kmalloc_node() calls to
non-zero nodes will crash the system with an OOPS:

This is caused by code like this in kernel/irq/irqdomain.c

    domain = kzalloc_node(sizeof(*domain) + (sizeof(unsigned int) * size),
                  GFP_KERNEL, of_node_to_nid(of_node));

When NUMA is disabled, the concept of a node is really undefined, so
of_node_to_nid() should unconditionally return NUMA_NO_NODE.

Fix by returning NUMA_NO_NODE when the nid is not in the set of
possible nodes.

c6c7d83b9c Revert "console: don't prefer first registered if DT specifies stdout-path"
This reverts commit 05fd007e46 ("console: don't prefer first
registered if DT specifies stdout-path").

The reverted commit changes existing behavior on which many ARM boards
rely. Many ARM small-board-computers, like e.g. the Raspberry Pi have
both a video output and a serial console. Depending on whether the user
is using the device as a more regular computer; or as a headless device
we need to have the console on either one or the other.

Many users rely on the kernel behavior of the console being present on
both outputs, before the reverted commit the console setup with no
console= kernel arguments on an ARM board which sets stdout-path in dt
would look like this:

  [root@localhost ~]# cat /proc/consoles
  ttyS0 -W- (EC p a) 4:64
  tty0 -WU (E p ) 4:1

Where as after the reverted commit, it looks like this:

  [root@localhost ~]# cat /proc/consoles
  ttyS0 -W- (EC p a) 4:64

This commit reverts commit 05fd007e46 ("console: don't prefer first
registered if DT specifies stdout-path") restoring the original
behavior.

05fd007e46 console: don't prefer first registered if DT specifies stdout-path
If a device tree specifies a preferred device for kernel console output
via the stdout-path or linux,stdout-path chosen node properties or the
stdout alias then the kernel ought to honor it & output the kernel
console to that device. As it stands, this isn't the case. Whilst we
parse the stdout-path properties & set an of_stdout variable from
of_alias_scan(), and use that from of_console_check() to determine
whether to add a console device as a preferred console whilst
registering it, we also prefer the first registered console if no other
has been selected at the time of its registration.

This means that if a console other than the one the device tree selects
via stdout-path is registered first, we will switch to using it & when
the stdout-path console is later registered the call to
add_preferred_console() via of_console_check() is too late to do
anything useful. In practice this seems to mean that we switch to the
dummy console device fairly early & see no further console output:

    Console: colour dummy device 80x25
    console [tty0] enabled
    bootconsole [ns16550a0] disabled

Fix this by not automatically preferring the first registered console if
one is specified by the device tree. This allows consoles to be
registered but not enabled, and once the driver for the console selected
by stdout-path calls of_console_check() the driver will be added to the
list of preferred consoles before any other console has been enabled.
When that console is then registered via register_console() it will be
enabled as expected.

ecd76eded0 of/platform: Probe "isa" busses by default
Since commit 44a7185c2a ("of/platform: Add common method to populate
default bus") platforms calling of_platform_bus_probe from an initcall
is either a rather unsafe race with of_platform_default_populate_init or
a no-op. The MIPS Malta board needs to probe devices under an ISA bus,
which we do support in the of_busses array but until now haven't
included in of_default_bus_match_table.

Add an "isa" entry to of_default_bus_match_table such that we can just
accept use of of_platform_default_populate_init & remove the
Malta-specific match table in a later patch.
